Remote sensing for cost-effective blue carbon accounting

چکیده
Blue carbon ecosystems (BCE) include mangrove forests, tidal marshes, and seagrass meadows, all of which are currently under threat, putting their contribution to mitigating climate change at risk. Although certain challenges trade-offs exist, remote sensing offers a promising avenue for transparent, replicable, cost-effective accounting many BCE unprecedented temporal spatial scales. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has issued guidelines developing blue inventories incorporate into Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Low Cost UAV-based Remote Sensing for Autonomous Wildlife Monitoring
In recent years, developments in unmanned aerial vehicles, lightweight on-board computers, and low-cost thermal imaging sensors offer a new opportunity for wildlife monitoring. In contrast with traditional methods now surveying endangered species to obtain population and location has become more cost-effective and least time-consuming. In this paper, a low-cost UAV-based remote sensing platform...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Cost-Effective Airborne Remote Sensing System for Coastal Monitoring
Coastal lands and nearshore marine areas are productive and rapidly changing places. However, these areas face many environmental challenges related to climate change and human-induced impacts. Space-borne remote sensing systems may be restricted in monitoring these areas because of their spatial and temporal resolutions. In situ measurements are also constrained from accessing the area and obt...
متن کاملTwo Effective Feature Selection Criteria for Multispectral Remote Sensing
In an earlier study, Swain et al. reported on two statistical separability measures which for multiclass feature selection were shown experimentally to be more reliable than divergence. However, the empirical results of that study together with the best theoretical results in the literature left open some practical questions regarding the quantitative characterization of these separability meas...
متن کاملEffective Sequential Classifier Training for Multitemporal Remote Sensing Image Classification
The explosive availability of remote sensing images has challenged supervised classification algorithms such as Support Vector Machines (SVM), as training samples tend to be highly limited due to the expensive and laborious task of ground truthing. The temporal correlation and spectral similarity between multitemporal images have opened up an opportunity to alleviate this problem. In this study...
متن کاملSatellite Remote Sensing for Geologic Carbon Sequestration Field Monitoring
Carbon dioxide is one of the major greenhouse gases generated by human activities which, by virtue of its impact on global climate through “Greenhouse Warming”, are implicated in extreme environmental impacts such as more prevalent and more intense storms, bushfires, floods, droughts and heat waves. In order to constrain the growth of atmospheric CO2, Geologic Carbon Sequestration (GCS) has bee...
